These include weathering, erosion, and deposition caused by agents such as wind, water, glaciers, and waves. Over thousands of years, rivers carve out valleys and gorges, winds shape deserts and sand dunes, and glaciers cut through mountains to create U-shaped valleys. These processes slowly wear down and reshape the Earth's surface continuously. Major Landforms and How They Are Formed This chapter covers the formation of key landforms including mountains, plateaus, plains, valleys, deltas, and coastal features. Each landform is the result of a specific combination of internal and external forces acting over long periods of time.
